Las Tres Abuelas had an easy fly day yesterday with all connections smooth. We arrived in Quito at 5:30 and so did all our luggage! The altitude hit right away as we puffed our way through customs (Quito is about 9000 feet). On the flights down we played with writing 6 word stories (thank you Bridget!) and here is mine for the day. Chicago snow, Panama HOT, Quito rain. The driver to took us to our hostel told us to expect rain every day until February... We stayed the night at Hostel Rabida, quite comfortable with a room for 3 and a resident rabbit, Brownie. All three of us strike up conversations quickly with strangers so we are likely to have lots of interesting connections as we journey.
We will be getting used to writing on the keyboards here, as yet I have not figured out how to do an apostrophe. I felt quite pleased using my new smart phone here until I put a code in place for getting into the phone and then could not get into it myself. I went into an electronics store in the Panama City airport and a kindly fellow told me to touch the OK key after I enter my code. Hmmm.
Today we explore a bit of Quito and tomorrow the Amazon travelers leave at 6 AM while I travel on to Otavalo with Carlos and Carmen. And somewhere along the way we will figure out how to upload photos as well as finding the apostrophe.
